Angel Flash Mob and Fossil Free Nativity for a Fossil Free C of E

In 2014 the Church of England's Ethical Investment Advisory Group (EIAG) will be considering pulling the Churches money out of Fossil Fuels!
On the 14th December SPEAK got together with some wonderful folks from Christian Ecology Link, the Occupy Environmental Working group and some other gems to stage a Angel Flash mob and Fossil Free nativity to celebrate the prospect of the Church's disinvestment from fossil fuels. You can check out some of the pictures taken here
It was such a fun day for a really world changing cause. Who should be leading the way of a fairer and more sustainable world? We think that it's the least that the Church could do.You may have many reasons to celebrate this. Here are two we can think of...
1.) The science is clear. Climate change results from our burning of fossil fuels. To continue business as usual will lead to devastation around the world, affecting every living thing on earth. One of the Anglican Churches 5 marks of Mission is, “To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth” this is not consistent with profiting from ecocide. “If it's wrong to wreck the climate, it's wrong to profit from wrecking the climate” Bill McKibben.
2.) The majority of known fossil fuels are unusable. It has been conservatively estimated that 2/3 of all known fossil fuel reserves must be left in the ground if we have any chance of avoiding catastrophic Climate Change. As a result fossil fuel investments based on current reserves are wildly overvalued. The Church cannot afford to be committed to such unsustainable companies.
The C of E's EIAG also have a survey they would like you to complete. Unfortunately it has by accident come across in the survey as if they don't think disinvestment is a good idea. Don't worry though, there are plenty of comment boxes to make your position known: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/S2NFLNX
