Soundcheck: 22nd – 24th February
Day of Action: 25th February
Where: The Rag Factory, Heneage Street (just off Brick Lane), E1 5LJ, London
Soundcheck is the SPEAK Network’s annual gathering. In a fantastic creative venue in East London, we play host to an exciting and inspiring selection of workshops, talks and live music. Chilling out in our cafe, you will encounter a diverse community of individuals hoping to change the world, and have an opportunity to discuss and discover what the Christian faith has to do with justice. Here are some photos from last year for you to get an idea.
We’d love for anyone who wants to be at Soundcheck to be able to come, and realise that the cost may be a hindrance to some. If you can't manage these prices please do get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a discounted ticket. You can go ahead and register your place via the website right away, but then contact us before making a payment.
Please note, if you are a supporter of one of our support raising staff you are entitled to free entry.
STEVE CHALKE has long been a prominent Christian voice for social justice, and is the founder of the Oasis Trust, Stop the Traffik and Faithworks. He is also a UN Special Advisor on Human Trafficking. Steve is a long-time supporter of SPEAK, and is on our council of reference.
ELAINE STORKEY is the president of Tearfund, and the UK’s leading feminist theologian. She is passionate about justice and transformation, and was named one of the top 100 women public intellectuals by The Guardian. In 2010, she founded Restored with her husband Alan, an organisation advocating for women who are victims of violence.
Our ‘Pods’ will host a range of workshops, covering everything from sustainable lifestyles to creative campaigning, from the theology of justice to living in prayerful community. Faith, Arts, Campaigning, Community, Faith and Prayer – it’s all here!
Our new slot for engaging with some of the superb documentaries and inspiring films highlighting themes of faith, hope & global justice.
For those of us that have emerged from the white heat of student life, and struggle to juggle campaigning for justice with the grown-up responsibilities of work and families, join us in Check2 to share stories and ideas with others who live and work with the same struggles.
We will be hosting a special free lunch at 12noon Saturday, in the Check2 space. This is for you if :
• YOU’RE NEW TO SPEAK AND WANT TO FIND OUT MORE
• YOU’RE A FINANCIAL SUPPORTER OF SPEAK (GIVING £25/MONTH OR MORE)
• YOU’RE INTERESTED IN SUPPORTING SPEAK
• YOU REPRESENT AN ORGANISATION WHO MAY WANT TO WORK ALONGSIDE US
We’d love to see you there. Let us know in advance (by email, or using the booking form).
