"Every year, Norwich High School for Girls hosts a social justice day for their Year 9 pupils to inspire them to make positive change in the world. One of the teachers, Mr Emerson, heard about SPEAK earlier this year and contacted head office. The request was passed to the Norwich young adults SPEAK group. Hazel Erskine and Kirstin Aitken facilitated a morning of sessions on 7th November 2013 talking about who SPEAK is and what we do. We covered the vision and values of SPEAK; shared a story from Matthew Creber about his time working for the organisation; looked at SPEAK’s 5 main campaigns; and showed pictures from Soundcheck 2013. We then explained that SPEAK was a partner organisation of the IF campaign and played the Christian Aid trading game with the girls. The girls were very enthusiastic and learnt how difficult the lives of the poor can be because of the injustices of the global trading system. It was an inspiring morning which lead some of the girls to ask how they can get involved in campaigning to fight injustice."
Thanks Hazel and Kristin for your hard work in putting this together and for sowing the vision of SPEAK into the lives of some young people who will hopefully become future SPEAKees.
