Prayer Points
At SPEAK we have learned from experiece that prayer really does make a difference. As we pray God changes our hearts, reveals his heart, and answers us! You can pray even as you read this - it's a simple place to start and a place to return to through all of our activities. Here are a few pointers to get you started...
Stop doing wrong, learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed - Isaiah 1: 16b-17a, NIV
- Praise God for Jesus - the ultimate activist against injustice in our world. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you with wisdom and commitment to campaign and pray for change.
- Repent and ask forgiveness for the lack of radical action that our government and we show. Ask God for renewed passion to see real change of governments' and companies' unjust activities around the world. Pray God will comfort all those in such oppressive situations.
- Thank God that in the UK we can campaign and pray freely. Pray God's protection for all who are speaking out at great risk to themselves and those they love. Pray that God will show you how you can speak up about these issues.
- Give thanks that by working together there is now much great awareness of the need for corporate accountability. Pray for this unity and understanding to keep growing.
- Pray for SPEAK's Big Dress Campaign and Big Dress Tour to make a real difference in terms of government, media and public actions on the issues. Thank God for all the campaign impact, hard work and prayer so far and pray for continued good connections and support.
- Pray for all those who are responsible for making decisions about the OECD's work especially that of making companies accountable through the Guidelines (1 Tim 2v1-2). Pray that the Government, MPs and MEPs will hear and understand the real injustice many communities and the environment suffer because of companies' activities.
- Pray for changes to the Guidelines and particularly the work of the NCPs to hold companies increasingly accountable for their impact on people around the world and on the environment. Pray that NCPs will be better resourced and structured to deal fairly and thoroughly with complaints about company activities that they receive.
