Action update
India recently agreed not to supply Myanmar (Burma) with any weapons whatsoever. This is a great success, and is due in no small part to pressure exerted upon it from the EU Parliament, Council of Ministers and Commission. We should congratulate our leaders on their action. However, we should press for measures that make such ad hoc action unnecessary – we need compulsory “no re-export without written consent” clauses to become part of our regulatory system, ensuring that all countries that we supply arms to are unable to pass them on to cruel regimes.
Please use the Pray & Post card to petition for change in UK arms licensing laws. You can also send the draft letter to your MEP for them to send to the EU Council of Ministers - we want the Council to pass an EU-wide law implementing the watertight re-export controls across the EU.
You can find both in the materials section.
