Flower Model

Flower Model is differnt from Vocal Training and Soundcheck. It's about planning and developing new ideas for SPEAK.

It's about people who are committed to taking responsibility for certain areas of SPEAK praying together about SPEAK's future and allowing the Holy Spirit to connect the ideas and draw out what we will work together on.

Your Role at the Weekend

As a member of the NST, you should also be part of a petal. This might be a really obvious choice depending on your role in the NST, but it might be something you want to give some thought to. What is the area of SPEAK that most grabs you? What would you like to help seed in to the Network?

At the weekend, your role is simply to be part of this team. You are free to input ideas and share reflections as everyone is. However, because of your behind the scenes understanding of SPEAK, there are a few things to bear in mind.

  • Remember your contributions might hold more weight within your team if people look at you as a 'responsible' staff member! Just make sure you are giving others enough space
  • Often the volume of ideas that come up can feel overwhelming to us as we listen to what we might need to work on! But don't worry, a lot of them will stay in the realm of ideas. Try not to shut ideas down before they've had a chance to be aired.
  • Be careful of what you commit to. The NST takes the decisions that come out of Flower Model and turns them in to reality. If needs be, just let things stay as ideas until you have a chance to talk to your manager about what it's wise to take on

Your Role in a Petal Team

Your role within a petal team will largely depend on how the petal team is doing without NST support. If your petal is well functioning, you may just simply be part of the petal, actioning new ideas because you have a bit more capacity.

However, it may be that the petal leader is struggling or there isn't one. If this is the case, the idea is not simply for the NST to take over, but you can act as a holding person to support the team leader, contacting petal members to let them know about meetings and following up action points they have.

It could also be taht there are not many members of the petal. If this is case, you might be working closely with the petal leader, actioning ideas that have come out of the meetings. There may be some things that it is crucial to push forward, but try to encourage team building rather than loads of action.
