SPEAK are members of the Trade Justice Movement (TJM) and the Corporate Responsibility Coalition (CORE), both of which are coalitions, who work together. The Big Dress is our main campaign and prayer action for SPEAK's Trade Justice campaign as we make the most of the great opportunities in 2004-5. The Big Dress as an action focuses on the third of our five Trade Justice campaign goals which is 'For multinational companies to be held accountable for how they treat their workers and impact on the places in which they invest.' This links with the Trade Justice Movement's call for the UK government to, 'Make laws that stop big business profiting at the expense of people and the environment'. Specifically, through the Big Dress campaign we will be backing CORE's demands for change:

SPEAK's specific campaign goals related to the Big Dress are that we want the UK government to:

1. adopt new laws to make corporate social and environmental reporting and disclosure mandatory for British companies - including the disclosure of payments to overseas governments, information on the social and environmental impact of overseas operations and information on legal actions against companies
2. frame new responsibilities for company directors to give them a 'duty of care' for communities and the environment, making them legally accountable for the actions of their companies overseas
3. change the law to enable people harmed by British companies' overseas operations to seek redress in UK courts and to provide the resources to enable them to do so.
