Friends of Speak
Speak is a network of inspiring people. We're all so unique and diverse and creative – and that doesn't just mean being a bit arty! You are connected to people through Speak who have taken initiative and a few giant leaps of faith to set up businesses, social enterprises and networks within a network that challenge the status quo, and bring a little bit more of God's heart of love and justice into the way we interact with our neighbours near and far...
Take a look at what people have done... be inspired by their wonderful websites... and please support them!
Cokoon
At its heart, Cokoon is about integrating fair trade with mission to bring about complete physical and spiritual transformation in the lives of the poor. This vision is starting to take shape in Cambodia, where last year Dan spent a month getting to know some fantastic people who are doing amazing gospel work with the poor of Cambodia. Following this trip, Cokoon has started importing some of their beautiful fair trade products, and spreading the word about the work they do in the talks and workshops that Cokoon provides for churches and other groups. If you want to know more, why not consider coming out to Cambodia with Cokoon this summer? Oh, Go On.Visit the Cokoon site here!
Liber Torre
Push aside the fabrics, silk screens and sketchbooks and you will find Hannah, loving living this dream … who, not content with making the world’s biggest dress, decided to embark on life size clothes: here are the beginnings of the result. This venture was born out of a desire to create garments that carry a message of uniqueness, art and style within a framework that loves people and the environment. Hannah works with her designer sister lucy and a number of other talented artisans in england, east africa, and india with the aim to enclothe people in freedom, style and beauty. Things in nature, visible and invisible, are the inspiration. and the aspiration is to make an authentic difference. To a lot of people.Visit the Liber Torre site here!
Ethical Home Boutique
The inspiration for this website came from Naomi's own experience of trying to create an ethical wedding gift list when she got married. She struggled to find a site that offered enough of a broad range of fairtrade and ethical products to compile her ideal list and start a home. She wanted to create a site that brought together well-established fair trade suppliers and ethical companies to provide a one-stop shop for the ethically aware shopper to furnish their home. As well as an online store they also offer a gift list facility for those special occasions.Visit the Ethical Home Boutique here!
Fair Grounds
The vision of this social enterprise is supporting people in countries across the world through trade, while at the same time giving people in the UK an opportunity to shop ethically and easily... we hope to empower people to want to do something and support them in doing something to work towards a world based on Fair Grounds!Visit the Fair Grounds site here!
i58
A fellowship of radical Christians involved in direct action movements and grassroots political activities. We make our decisions together as a community bound by faith and have no need for leaders. We stand together against injustice in its various forms and the economical and political structures that allow them to exist. From 3rd to 11th August I58 and other organisations are working hard to create a cafe space, run by Christians, to provide tea and coffee, cakes and more at Climate Camp, as somewhere for Christians to gather for fellowship and prayer.Visit the i58 site here!
Just Fair Laughs
JFL is a Fair Trade Comedy Movement which organises and stages Stand Up Comedy Nights, drawing upon a vast network of top comedians throughout the UK and promoting the cause of Fair-trade by making information and literature available at all our events. We do it because we want to provide good, clean and affordable entertainment, support the Speak network, both financially and with awareness raising, provide a positive addition to the cultural landscape, and most of all, to provide a jolly good night of laughter and frivolity!Visit the Just Fair Laughs site here!
