The increase in intensive meat production in recent years has led to a massive demand for soy, a key ingredient in many animal feeds. This has led to aggressive competition for land, deforestation, and intensive chemical spraying in Latin America, where the beans are grown. Crucially there is insufficient regulation to limit the damage that can be done by soy companies.
The UK Government should be doing more to keep UK companies accountable. We believe that people and communities harmed by UK companies or their suppliers or subsidiaries, need access to justice. For when justice fails them in their home country, we are calling for the creation of a Business, Environment and Human Rights Commission, to investigate and act on their complaints.More information –download the Pray & Post card and the Pullout (below)
