Contemplatives & Activists
‘Contemplation is a vivid realisation of the fact that life and being in us proceeds from an invisible, transcendent, infinitely abundant source’.
Thomas Merton ‘New Seeds of Contemplation’
The SPEAK network has groups that regularly practise contemplation and do this alongside our campaigning/activist work, because we believe it gives us the energy and internal resources that we need. God also helps give us patience and love for those decision makers and groups whose practices we are seeking to challenge.
God is our source for energy in the struggle for social justice and our resource in caring for the earth. Contemplative prayer puts us in touch with the flow of the creator.
Transformation of our inner landscapes brings transformation to the outer landscapes. Change to inner value systems will eventually shift the current economic, political and social systems.
‘Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.’
